Message from the Convention Chair

My warmest felicitations to all our colleagues in biorisk management, dear BRAP members and fellow advocates on laboratory biosafety and biosecurity.

In recent years, the world has been facing unprecedented challenges in the form of biological risks. From the emergence of new diseases to the re-emergence of old ones, the global landscape of biological risks is constantly evolving, and it is essential to ensure resiliency and innovations to effectively mitigate these risks. To this end, BRAP had been unceasing in expanding its networks with international and local organizations to sustain our vision and mission in creating safe and secure laboratory facilities within the country and beyond its borders.

We believe that collaboration is key to ensuring resiliency and innovation in the face of biological risks. Cooperation between governments, private organizations, and international bodies can help ensure that resources are effectively utilized and that the response to biological risks is coordinated. Collaboration can also facilitate the sharing of knowledge, technology, and best practices. With this in mind, we have crafted the 6th BRAP Annual Convention and 4th International Forum as a catalyst for collaboration and networking as we adapt to an ever-changing global landscape of biological risks.

This years’ annual gathering will provide us with new insights on biorisk management viewed through several lenses. Exciting grants will also be unveiled this year through the assistance of our global partners and we will also continue our annual search for BRAP’s biosafety champion. One of the major highlights of our conference is the first-ever BRAP Annual Research Cup which will showcase various studies and best practices regarding biosafety, biosecurity, and biorisk management.

On behalf of the organizers, we look forward to seeing you on July 26-28, 2023 at the Century Park Hotel in Manila.

Message from the BRAP President

Greetings from the BioRisk Association of the Philippines!

I take pride in inviting our members, colleagues and all biosafety professionals to the forthcoming 6th BRAP Annual Convention and 4th International Conference on July 26-28, 2023 at Century Park Hotel in Manila.

As we move towards the new normal and as we start to experience the new world order, BRAP is committed to be the conduit in making sure that we live in a safe and secure work environment. It has been the advocacy of the association to capacitate and upskill biosafety practitioners in all levels of laboratory practice across the country, through various forms of continuing education activities.

With this year’s theme, “Ensuring Resiliency and Innovations amidst the Changing Global Landscape in Biological Risks”, the convention will highlight new knowledge, principles, policies and technologies related to biosafety and biosecurity, which are truly useful in every laboratory setting. This year’s event will feature relevant topics to be delivered by world-renowned experts and local biosafety leaders. BRAP will also introduce Research Cup , which is a new segment of the event. This will showcase biorisk management best practices in different laboratories facilities . In addition, a short-term educational grant will be provided to deserving BRAP active members.

As BRAP joins the the global community towards recovery from the challenges brought about by the pandemic, it remains committed and focused in its objectives to be the face of biosafety and biosafety in the Philippines and in the world. It’s recent installation in the International Federation of Biosafety Associations (IFBA) as the official member biosafety organization from the Philippines and its strong support from it’s partners and collaborators such as Health Security Partners, Biosecurity Engagement Program (BEP), Sandia National Laboratories, CRDF Global and Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) , among many others are testaments how BRAP has established its good reputation and is now a trusted professional biosafety organization by the global community.

I wish everyone a productive and meaningful convention and international conference. Let this yearly gathering be an opportunity to enjoy the countless benefits that BRAP offers to its members.
